Erika is a psychotherapist and certified executive and life coach. She works with clients to help them increase self-awareness in order to create more choice in personal and professional pursuits and to arrive at their own definition of balance and fulfillment. Her approach is appreciative, strength-based, and client driven with a focus on self and relationships. Clients are empowered to improve and nurture their personal and professional relationships and to take more risks in the pursuit of leadership, happiness and balance. Erika works with clients to improve their style of interaction, accountability, collaboration and communication skills, stress management and self-trust.
Life transitions are particular challenges in our lives. Erika believes that life transitions are a natural process of disorientation and reorientation that is often the turning path of growth. Erika works with clients on transitional issues such as entering the workforce, starting a family, divorce and professional changes. Recently, she has initiated a unique program for parents experiencing one of life’s most significant transitions, children growing up and leaving home, often referred to as the Empty Nest Syndrome.
Work-life balance is of particular interest in her practice as Erika has devoted her life to achieving her own definition of balance though self-discovery, personal and professional growth, and nurturing her family and friends. She works with individual clients as well as corporate and volunteer groups helping them address these important issues. She has developed and conducted life balance workshops, which she has implemented for the Canadian Breast Cancer and York University Foundations. She has also been instrumental in the creation of a workshop which enhances wellness by integrating nutritional knowledge with coaching tools to help implement an individual's nutritional goals.
Erika is an expert in executive leadership training, delivering workshops nationally for the Women’s Executive Network. Her expertise has been recognized by the International Positive Psychology Association and the Women’s Executive Network. She has and continues to conduct academic research on leadership development based on VIA Signature Strengths, and was selected to present at The First Annual International Congress on Positive Psychology.
Erika has done significant work in enhancing collaboration and communication among academic teams at the University of Toronto. She has also led workshops in communication and persuasion skills at Upper Canada College, where she also on the Board of Mentoring Ties.
Prior to establishing her psychotherapy and coaching practices, Erika worked for 22 years as an urban planner with some of Canada’s most dynamic corporations. She established her own planning consulting firm and was responsible for creating the program and plan for one of Canada’s largest national urban parks. Through these experiences she learned the art of leadership: how to weave together a team that produces excellence using individual strengths. She honed her strategic, entrepreneurial, leadership and management skills, and she now assists clients to thrive in corporate, academic and consulting milieus.
Erika is an adjunct assistant professor at the University of Toronto, teaching masters level courses in public participation and collaboration. She also works as a coach with graduate and postgraduate students to help them complete their theses and transition into the workplace. Erika is keenly devoted to living and facilitating a balanced life and wellness. She is the executive coach for the Toronto Clinic, where she inspires clients to make a commitment to balanced living.
Erika completed the course in Advanced Training in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy at the Toronto Psychoanalytic Society. She is also a member of the Canadian Association for Psychodynamic Therapy. Erika is certified by the International Coaching Federation and is qualified by Psychometrics Canada to administer the MBTI. She also holds a Masters Degree in Environmental Studies.
